Dieselpunk Realms

 [Transcript Beginning...]

Welcome traveler.

This is where the realms take a turn for the dark side, literally. The first two aesthetics had its victorian browns, gears, and metal. They also had their alienist colors and huge planets. This one stands out because it's generation wasn't going for escapism or movie brightness. It was going for the grittiness that formed dieselpunk.

Dieselpunk

(1930 - 1950)

It's definitely obvious this was formed in the war era. Specifically, it's world war II. The aesthetic this one features is dark and war torn, them wearing bleak gas-mask like contraptions that gives it a doomsday feel. If the color pallet isn't just black and white, then it only has muted greens, browns, and reds. A lot of the technology from this realm veers into the war-like art, with the planes built like fighter jets or huge war vessels. For the powersource of these machines, their source of choice was diesel. Just like steampunk, it's intergrated into all the places they can fit it. The choice of diesel gives it even more of a desaturated feel, which was probably the effect it was going for.

This one didn't miss the movie crazes that came with it either, much like raypunk. The movies and books that came from this were more film noir and occult, leaning into it's darkness. It's the perfect setting for the murder  mysteries that are usually chosen for this setup.

A lot of imagery from the time could fall into the propaganda territory from what I could pull. There are a lot of images that aretrying to support war efforts and factory workers, and ones like the above that caters to the "war aesthetic".  In the actual realm, there isn't much of this don't worry. The place is very grim though, living somewhere where there's a constant war effort can take a toll on the mental health.
